Benefits of fish tanks for Dementia/Alzheimer’s patients

It’s no secret that aquarium’s seen in doctor’s and dentist’s waiting rooms aren’t just there for aesthetics – they reduce patient anxiety and provide a healthy distraction.
In a classic 1999 study conducted by Purdue University of Indiana, researchers learned that aquariums can improve Alzheimer’s patients’ eating habits and behavioural patterns. 62 individuals residing in dementia-specific units were monitored over a 16 week period before and after a colourful aquarium was introduced.

Results showed the fish tanks brought a 21.1% increase in food intake – a considerable improvement that paved the way for less nutritional supplements, less healthcare cost, and more importantly, healthier eating practices.

Further, the aquariums increased the patients’ level of attentiveness. The colours, movement, and sound of the fish provided a stimulating and interesting experience, and patients could be pacified for long periods of time.

How an aquarium can improve your Feng Shui

Feng Shui is a Chinese philosophical belief in a system of laws considered to govern spatial arrangement and orientation in relation to the flow of energy (chi). Often when designing or decorating buildings, the favourable or unfavourable effects of Feng Shui are taken into account when siting and designing buildings.

Feng Shui is practiced all over the world, including in Australia. Many of our customers believe that placing a Feng Shui aquarium in their workplace or home draws auspicious chi of prosperity and good luck into their space. Aquariums contain the 5 elements of feng shui – water, earth, fire, metal and wood – which together provide the perfect balance of chi energy.

When a customer expresses their desire to have a Feng Shui aquarium, we typically provide them with 8 orange coloured goldfish along with one black goldfish. The single black fish is believed to absorb any negative energy before it reaches you.
